Many people require a DNA test for different reasons, the reason for the test will determine the type of test that is needed. The difference between a Legal DNA Test and a Peace of Mind DNA Test is described below:
Legal DNA Test
Tests for any legal purpose such as: immigration, changing a birth certificate, child support payments, or probate, our Legal Test Service is required. For a DNA Test to be valid in a court of law, there is a strict chain of custody. All DNA mouth swab samples must be taken from participants by a registered GP or Nurse, or alternatively by a member of the Anglia DNA sampling teamPeace of Mind
A peace of mind DNA Test puts an end to suspicion, and provides an answer to doubts or questions which may have existed for weeks, months, or even years, at the back of people’s minds. These tests are self sample (often called “home”) tests. The client samples themselves in the comfort of their own home and returns the samples (along with appropriate documentation) to the laboratory for testing. These tests are designed to be used for peace of mind purposes only, they are not designed to be used for legal purposes.Tests available:
Paternity DNA Testing
Paternity testing is the test for which we have the greatest demand and is used to establish whether an Alleged Father is or is not the biological father of a child. We Offer Two Types of Paternity Test:Standard: The Standard Paternity Test involves testing the Mother, Child and the Alleged Father to establish paternity.
Motherless: The Motherless Paternity Test involves testing the Alleged Father and Child to establish paternity and can be used if the mother does not wish to or is unavailable to take part in the test and we have the appropriate consent for the test to be carried out.
Maternity DNA Testing
Our Maternity testing service is used to establish whether an Alleged Mother is or is not the biologicalmother of a child. We Offer Two Types of Maternity Test:
Standard: The Standard Maternity Test involves testing the Father, Child and the Alleged Mother to establish maternity.
Fatherless: The Fatherless Maternity Test involves testing the Alleged Mother and Child to establish maternity and can be used if the father does not wish to or is unavailable to take part in the test.
Sibling DNA Testing
Sibling testing is part of our range of Family Relationship Testing Services. Sibling testing is used to establish whether two or more individuals share both biological parents (full siblings), or whether they share just one biological parent (half siblings) or whether they share neither parent (unrelated), i.e. whether they are full brothers or sisters, half brothers or sisters or are unrelated.Uncle/Aunt/Nephew/Niece DNA Testing*
This test is available to clients as part of our range of Family Relationship Testing Services and is used to establish whether individuals in a family are related as Uncle/Aunt/Nephew or Niece. It is often requested by clients where the biological parents are not available for testing and the family wish to confirm or establish the nature of the biological relationships between the individuals.
Grandparent DNA Testing*
This test is available to clients as part of our range of Family Relationship Testing Services and is used to establish whether individuals are related as Grandparent and Grandchild. It is often requested by clients where the biological parents are not available for testing and the family wish to confirm or establish the nature of the biological relationships between the individuals.*Accuracy
It is important to note that in some cases, test results for the family relationships above will be inconclusive. Inconclusive results occur when the genetic information shared between the potential siblings/relatives is common to that shared by the general population. In these circumstances there is insufficient genetic evidence unique to the individuals being tested to establish the relationship between them. It is not possible to predict the outcome of one of these tests until it is completed, and unfortunately because of the work involved we are unable to refund clients who receive an inconclusive result.
